Unsettling and fascinating work. Spoken word vocals cut through with raw emotion and electronic beats throb under what sounds like primitive torture devices being prepared and manipulated as the listener is pulled into each individual tale of depravity. There are some truly disturbing samples at play in these meticulously crafted tracks, woven into the fabric of each piece and programmed to hit at the precise moment for maximum intensity. Not casual listening by any means.

Some thoughts on this record, courtesy of Ester Kärkkäinen -
cherry sundae . it's hard to consider me a naive listener, but maybe my consumption of noise and pornography only goes so far . maybe all of you know what this is, and maybe your perversions take a very different course from mine . but it's true: i did not know what a cherry sundae was until i heard jhane describe that act of sexual violence in the false maria track of the same name . and then i started obsessing over that . what is the arousal? is the violence against somebody else? the sight of blood? is this act gendered (i.e. can a man perform this on another man)? does anyone care about the reaction of the woman? i'm assuming her pleasure (or his, if that's applicable to the sub) is irrelevant. but does she get off on her own abuse with a cum-splattered broken nose? my experience says no to this last question. but ultimately i still don't know . i looked around for a minute for cherry sundae porn, then got distracted by something that i was truly interested in . btw. this is NOT an invitation for any of you to send me porn. i can find it on my own . fuck off .
i am always surprised by false maria . that's what makes this project so special . few things shock me, but i am always intrigued when something causes me to put my ear a little closer . to lean into those nasty details . not just about getting fucked in a terrible way . but about the aftermath of getting fucked in a terrible way . where pleasure goes wrong . horribly wrong . but there's not a bitterness, a jaded rejection of the flesh for false maria . no, we need it . we need it badly . i know that both jhane and tommy are survivors . victims . NHI . they know the answers to questions that we shouldn't know: how does it feel to be treated as less than human? how you composed yourself after you've been assaulted, discarded, violated, left for dead? does anybody fucking care? really, do they care at all? irreversible .
i find a lot of sadness in false maria, and a lot of wisdom . and strangely, i find hope . "i see it all now, it's dark, and empty. it sparkles too" yeah, that's about right .
